League Champs

The Riverside Middle School boys basketball team capped off a remarkable season by winning the NEKL end-of-year tournament, finishing undefeated for the second consecutive year and securing both the regular season and tournament championships.

Riverside opened tournament play on their home floor against Jackson
Heights and wasted no time setting the tone. The Cyclones dominated from start to finish, cruising to a 73-19 victory behind a balanced offensive attack and relentless defense.

The next round proved to be a much tougher test. Traveling to Oskaloosa, Riverside faced a physical McLouth team that challenged them throughout the game. In a tightly contested battle, the Cyclones relied on composure and key defensive stops down the stretch to pull away with a 45-39 win, earning a spot in the championship game.

On Saturday, Riverside returned to Oskaloosa to face the JCN Chargers for the tournament title. The championship matchup lived up to expectations, as both teams battled hard on both ends of the floor. Strong rebounding, disciplined defense, and timely scoring helped the Cyclones gain control late in the game, securing a 53-42 victory and the NEKL tournament championship.

Leading the way in the title game was Charles Hewins with 21 points.
Brooks Griffin added 11, while Max Koehler and TJ McGee each contributed 7. Daley Garland scored 4 points, Barrett Miller added 2, and Oliver Cluck chipped in 1.

With the win, Riverside not only claimed the tournament crown but also
completed an extraordinary milestone-back-to-back undefeated seasons while capturing both the league regular season and tournament titles each year.

The Cyclones' success reflects a full team effort, strong fundamentals,
and consistent dedication throughout the season. The program also extends its appreciation to the parents and supporters who contributed their time and effort to make the season a success.
