Sunflower Summer 2022: Free Access to over 80 Kansas Attractions and More! We are very excited to share with you an opportunity for your children and your family to experience over 80 Kansas attractions, educational activities, and fun events at no cost from May 28th through August 14th. “Sunflower Summer” is in its second year and is a program that was developed by the Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) for families to have fun and experience as many of the participating Kansas locations as possible during the summer. Please visit http://sunflowersummer.org/ to learn more about this year’s expanded programming options by watching the short video and reviewing the “Participating Locations” section of the page. Attractions, activities, and events from across Kansas include zoos, museums, historic landmarks, libraries, day camps, outdoor events, and more. The updated App for iPhone and Android will be available to download by May 28th to your phone or tablet. Anyone who kept the app on their device from last summer does not need to download it again; instead, they will receive an electronic notice to simply update their app to the 2022 version. An adult will need to register their family members and include their county and school district. Then, families may begin planning their summer fun and acquiring free venue tickets as needed using the app and all of its features!

Riverside High School Track and Field competed in their last track meet of the season, the class 2 regional meet held at Jefferson County North HS in Winchester, KS last Friday. This was the state qualifier and we saw some very good competition among 16 schools, some of the best in class 2 in the state. We had 2 marks high enough to place in the meet. Those athletes were Sophie Juhl in the Long Jump (6th place) with a jump of 14' 9.75" and the girls 4x100 team (Karmen Baldwin, Bayleigh Cooper, Tysaun Kirby and Sophie Juhl) placing 6th with a time of 55.22. On the boys side, Landon Conard placed 7th in the 800 with a new best of 2:10.18. Overall it was a good learning season with a talented and fun group of athletes who set many personal bests and earned medals and other accolades along the way. We have a very young team of sophomores and freshmen and so look forward to continued growth next year with this experience in hand. Image: Karmen Baldwin hands off to Sophie Juhl in the 4x100.
